In January 2018, 11 companies started two seamlessly aligned Joint Innovation Projects (JIPs). The group has grown to 18 partners by June 2019. The JIPs goal is to develop a guideline for the qualification of spare parts produced by Additive Manufacturing technologies, and an accompanying economic model, to be used in the Oil & Gas and Maritime industries. Recently, the JIPs have been extended till December 2019 to gain learnings from a 2nd round of part production and to allow maturing of draft guideline through the use by the partners.
Equinor, BP, Total, Shell, Kongsberg, OCAS, Ivaldi Group, TechnipFMC, Siemens, Voestalpine, Vallourec, Aidro, SLM Solutions, Additive Industries, Quintus Technologies, HIPtec, IMI CCI, and the Advanced Forming Research Centre of the University of Strathclyde aim to have a practical guideline available by December 2019. The JIPs are managed by DNV-GL and Berenschot.
Seamlessly aligned JIPs
The partners collaborate in two coherent and seamlessly aligned programs:
- A Guideline towards certified spare parts managed by DNV-GL:
- The final guideline will provide a framework to ensure that metal spare parts and components, produced via Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) and Laser-based Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), are according to specifications. This means that the spare parts meet stated quality and are manufactured in a safe and repeatable manner.
- A Toolbox for part selection, supply chain set-up and economic viability managed by Berenschot:
- A comprehensive and fully functional business tool will be released, to determine the bottom-line impact of 3D Printing spare parts in comparison with the traditional manufacturing routes. This model will also be tested during the spare part production process. In conjunction with this ROI-model a database of spare parts will be compiled, to showcase the applicability of AM for spare parts in Oil & Gas.
The closely aligned set-up of the two JIPs secures maximum knowledge exchange and learning between research institutes, designers, manufacturers, certifying bodies and end-users.
Deadline for joining JIPs
